Chikmagalur is a lovely scenic Karnataka mountain resort. This name is the "land of the young girl" and comes because Chikmagalur was offered as a gift to Rukmangada's youngest daughter, legendary Sakharayapattana's chief.

Chikmagalur is an ideal destination for travellers who want to spend their weekend or have a relaxing holiday with friends and family six hours away from Bangalore. It provides an amazing view of the Western Ghats, surrounded by marvellously sweeping climate and enchanting sights such as trekking routes, coffee plantations and cascading waterfalls, at an altitude of 3,400 meters on the foot of Mountain range Mullayanagiri.

 

1. Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh is a renowned UNESCO world heritage site. Kudre is a horse and a mukha is a face in Kannada. The name is given owing to the top of the horse-like Kudremukh. Located at elevated altitude, the park has a magnificent view of the mighty hills, luxuriant green countryside, untouched waterfalls, quiet waterways and the Bhagvati deity's cave. Tea and coffee plantations are also available here. The whole region covers dense forests and safaris and trekking activities can be undertaken.

Between September and February, when the climate is lovely and rain is very small, is the best time for trekking.

 

2. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best areas for a wildlife safari, as well as a protected area and a sensitive ecological zone. Enter the green splendour which contains exotic fauna and flora on a trip. Tiger sightings are common here in their natural environment. Watchers of birds are pleased! There are nearly 250 different bird species, and even specialized expeditions can be undertaken. Chikmagalur is 35 km from Bhadra Wildlife sanctuary. The Kallahathigiri Mountain, whose path runs inside the parking lot can also be visited from here.

 

3. Baba Budangiri

It had been Baba Budan, who smuggled five coffee beans from Mecca on the Chikmagalur mountains. The place where his tomb is now is called Baba Budangiri and the location of the trek is accessible. The shrine is visited by people of all religions.

The local people call the Datta Peeta and Chandra Drona Parvatha is the formal name from the summit. Especially from the top of the mountain, the country has an amazing perspective. The largest peak in this region is Mullayanagiri and one of the most adventurous sights.

 

4. Mullayangiri

The largest peak in Karnataka is reputed for Mullayangiri. At 2000 meters high, it has beautiful picturesque paths with lush grasslands and panoramic views of the town, which makes it favourite amongst walkers. The base for the hike is 12 km from Chikmagalur and between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris is the largest mountain. A lot of people come here for camping, mountain cycling and nature walks. The top of the edge of the peak also has a Lord Shiva temple which many devotees visit.

In the spring moment, it's best when the summers get too warm, and it's not recommended during monsoons, as it may become dangerous.

 

5. Bhadra Dam

Scenic spots are not confined to hills and high mountains in Chikmagalur. Bhadra Dam is a lovely location, the best in nature and the famous Chicmagalur landmark. The whole area is known to be peaceful and famous for rafting white water. The region around the Dam is mainly a tiny shrine of animals with red spurfowl, smart doves, gaurs, brown wafers, imperial green pigeons, mesh crocodiles and black boar.The monsoon season swells up the river, while it's ideal for kayaking throughout the year. June to October is the right time to raft.

 

6. Hebbe Falls

The peaceful Western Ghats is renowned for its wealthy monsoon area for many waterfalls. Hebbe Falls is the most beautiful cascade from an altitude of 550 meters and an exciting sight to see among these beautiful torrents. This waterfall can be reached through a steep and narrow route via a difficult 8-kilometre walk from Kemmangundi. The path is filled with beautiful greenery, with beautiful fauna and flora. The whole region has coffee plantations surrounding it, which offer the area a very pleasant picturesque touch.

 

7. Sharadamba Temple

Shringeri is famous for its lovely countryside and magnificent views. Here the Temple of Sharadamba draws many tourists to the Saraswati deity. The history of this temple dates from the eighth century. The initial temple was completely made of wood that was damaged by a fire. The recently restored building now resembles South India's traditional temples. It has a spectacular location on the banks of the Tungabhadra River.

 

8. Kemmangundi

Kemmangundi is a wonderful hill station once a resort in the royal family's summer reserve situated on the hillside of Tarikere Taluk, at an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level. The hill gives you a magnificent view of the mountains, mountains and valleys. There have been several resorts and homestays in this region, providing a calm retreat from the busy town life. This site is also called the Hill Station of Sri Krishnarajendra.

 

9. Hirekolale Lake

Lac d'Hirekolale is a delightful lake manufactured in Chikmagalur, 10 km away. The lake's highlight is the sight during sunset when it glows with the vibrant tones of saffron colour that the radiance of the sun underneath makes it almost ethereal. One of the famous attractions is its amazing beauty. It guarantees a visit.

 

10. Coffee Museum

Chikmagalur Coffee Museum presents coffee history in this region. You will find out about Chikmagalur's exquisite coffee varieties. The coffee quality is screened and analyzed before it is sent to the markets. Each phase of creating coffee is displayed in the museum from coffee to the last powdered shape. The museum has a fantastic gallery with photos, displays, a video presentation about coffee history and a laboratory to show coffee beans grinding.
